Vintage 1940s Black Jersey Handbag by Garay

I am offering this cute vintage handbag by Garay for sale. It is a must have for any vintage lover! I believe, based on the fabric, it is from the late 1940s — though it is possible it's from the 50s. A nice site for vintage fashion history is Vintage Dancer.

Finding information on Garay and Company Inc. was a bit tricky but according to Bag Lady Emporium, it was founded with the help of Morris Moscowitz in 1937.  She has a similar black jersey handbag which appears to have the same style single handle, that she values at $90. Description: The handbag is made from a what I believe is soft jersey black material with a single handle, hinged frame and oval base. The main compartment, opens with a metal clasp and contains a metal zippered pocket, two slip pockets with gold accents, and Garay fabric label. On either side of the main compartment there are two additional compartments.

Size: 7 1/2 " H, 9 1/2 " L, bottom of purse is 2 1/2" W

Condition: It's in beautiful condition for it's age and has no detectable odor which is often the case with vintage handbags. The change purse which came with the handbag is missing though the chain is still present.
